Summary:This study focused on determining the relationship between the development of obesity and overweight, physical activity and the influence of television advertising of foods considered junk, for this was proposed aimed at analyzing how the lack of physical activity and television advertising is related to the development of obesity in children / as 8 to 12 years old. The methodology used was descriptive, prospective and quantitative, it was made in the "Educational Unit Tcrn. Lauro Guerrero ". The universe consisted of all students enrolled and attending classes in the period 2012-2013. The sample was 257 students distributed over 5 years of basic education. A survey was conducted to identify the characteristics of the study population, the nutritional status was established by anthropometric measurements and the application of the formula for calculating BMI. To determine the influence of television advertising, he carried out a checklist. The main conclusions are: obesity and overweight is related to the limitation of physical activity, increased distracting activities as time spent watching television, the internet, plus the influence of the media for the consumption of foods considered scrap. According to the BMI of the study population obesity occurs in 35% in females, 32% in males. 45% of those studied, watch television for two to three hours a day; 67% use the internet about an hour a day; time spent on video games is an hour a day in 45% of cases. Of those tested 27% do not exercise. 50% of the study population influences of advertising space in purchasing unhealthy foods; 32% of the study population prefers to consume snacks that advertise on TV.
