Shrnutí:The objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between the level of basic cognitive processes of attention and memory and reading comprehension in first cycle students of the Law career of the Juridical, Social and Administrative Faculty 2023-2024 of the National University of Loja. The research presented a quantitative, correlational, descriptive and cross-sectional approach, with a non-experimental design, carried out with a sample of 36 students; the Attention Test d2 was applied, followed by the Reynolds Intelligence Scale (RIAS), focusing especially on the memory section. Finally, the Instrument for the Assessment of Reading Comprehension in University Students (ICLAU) was incorporated. To analyze the association between the variables, Kendall's Tau-b coefficient was used, and the results were verified using Pearson's linear correlation scale. A Kendall's Tau-b value of 0.101 was obtained for attention, indicating a weak positive correlation according to Pearson's linear correlation scale. For memory, a Kendall's Tau- b value of 0.068 was obtained, suggesting a weak positive correlation according to Pearson's linear correlation scale. This shows that there is a relationship between the cognitive processes of attention and memory and reading comprehension.
