Estudio temporal, espacial y factorial asociado a la Enfermedad de Chagas en la provincia de El Oro

American Trypanosomiasis is a vector-borne disease caused by the Trypanosoma cruzi parasite and it is an important cause of cardiac and gastrointestinal morbidity and mortality; traditionally considered a tropical disease, it is endemic in Latin American countries, including Ecuador. This research aimed to determine the epidemiological behavior of Chagas disease by identifying the associated sociodemographic and climatic factors in the province of El Oro from 2013 to 2022, to formulate an educational strategy for disease prevention. It was an analytical study with a mixed approach, using a retrospective cross-sectional cohort design, involving a universe of 157 cases recorded in the Epidemiological Bulletin of the Ministry of Public Health and the National University of Loja. The results indicate that the disease predominantly affects men over 65 years old in the province of El Oro, particularly in the Piñas canton, in warm temperatures, and during the dry season. The year with the highest proportional trend was 2019. Finally, an educational digital strategy for prevention was proposed for the general population. In conclusion, it is essential to develop preventive strategies and early diagnosis based on the evaluated epidemiological variables of Chagas disease, which will allow for the reduction and containment of the currently recorded rates managed by the relevant authorities
