The objective of this research was to asses the relationship between eating behavior and the nutritional status in children from one to three years old in Zone seven. To that end, in 423 children from 1 to 3 years old who were evaluated their nutritional status through anthropometric tables, the eating behavior was identified with the Infant Food Questionnaire, family functionality was applied the Family Function Perception Questionnaire, socio-economic conditions of the Ecuadorian Institute of Statistics and Census, as well as surveys with demographic and family data that to tutors and/or caregiver. It was performed a descriptive analysis with data socio-demographic and family characteristics, furthermore, they were prepared tables of contingency of 2 by 2 for the results with values of p < 0,05. As a result, predominated the masculine gender with the 53%; average age of 28.6 months. 28.8% showed inadequate eating behavior, of which 33.3% belonged to dysfunctional families showing a statistically significant relationship (p < 0.05). It was identified a statistical significance between eating behavior and overweight (p=0.007), not being like that for the nutritional status and family functionality. It was also detected that there is a relation between family functionality and eating behavior. This demonstrates the importance the importance of the identification of these changes at an early age avoiding alterations in the growth of the preschool due to non-organic causes.
