| Summary: | Nutritional status is the balance between intake, absorption and expenditure of caloric energy that is associated with sociocultural, biological and economic factors. The main objective of the study was to know the nutritional status of schoolchildren, identify the main associated factors and determine the relationship between these factors and the nutritional status of the children of the Gonzanamá Educational Unit. This is a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study, with a sample of 143 children from second to seventh year of basic education; The data was obtained through the anthropometric measurement of the students in addition to the tables of the World Health Organization to establish the nutritional status and through the application of a survey to the mothers of the family, obtaining the following results: regarding the children: 59.4% have normal weight, 2.1% mild malnutrition, 21% overweight and 17.5% obesity. Regarding the associated factors: 34.3% have mothers with primary education, 64.3% their mothers are unemployed, 32.2% have mothers over 40 years old, 67.8% of the children received exclusive breastfeeding, 60.8% live in urban areas, 86% did not have recurrent intestinal infections, 76.9% did not have recurrent respiratory infections, and 53.1% belong to families with incomes below the unified basic salary. Demonstrating that there is no statistical relationship between the associated factors and the nutritional status of children, since the level of significance obtained by Chi-square is greater than the critical level of p = 0.005. |
