Summary:Youth unemployment is considered a social and chronic problem that has an impact on the social and economic development of a society, which is why the general objective of this research is: to analyze the variables that affect youth unemployment in Latin America at the global level and by income level in the period 2000-2019. We used data from the World Bank and the Penn World Table database (2021), generalized least squares (GLS) regressions, second generation cointegration tests for panel data, due to the existence of dependence in the cross sections and heterogeneity in the slope, the CS-ARDL crosssectional panel test, fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) and the respective causality test. The results indicate that it is convenient to apply a random effects model, the GLS model allows us to infer that the independent variable and control variables are determinant factors that affect youth unemployment. The CS-ARDL test shows us the equilibrium relationship in the short term, the cointegration tests indicate the existence of equilibrium in the long term between the variables; through the FMOLS, the variable s present a positive and statistically significant relationship. The causality test determined the existence of unidirectional and bidirectional causality between unemployment and the variables of the model. Finally, alternatives should be provided to encourage the creation of new sources of employment, focused on training and human capital formation.
