Achoimre:Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with tissue injury; due to the inability to verbalize concepts RN is dependent on the interpretation of their behavior by health professionals involved in your care. To circumvent this situation have been developed and validated assessment tools, taking into account behavioral and physiological signs posing the newborn during a painful procedure. To this end the pain was assessed by applying the scale of Susan Givens Bell in neonates admitted to the Neonatal Unit of the Hospital Manuel Ygnacio Monteros, whose criteria were term infants or preterm mild ( 36 wk ) , RN intermediate and basic care , and RN who underwent procedures (arteriovenous and heel punctures ) , with a view to recommending actions to qualitatively improve the care provided to them. Of the 67 infants in the study 55.2 % were male, of whom 4.5 % had moderate pain, while 50.7% reported severe pain; females as represented by 44.8%, 11.9% had moderate pain and 32.8% severe pain. For gestational age severe pain occurs with higher incidence in infants 40 weeks with 25.4%, followed by 39-week RN 17.9%. The highest percentage of moderate pain equally evident at 40 weeks to 9%. Regarding the procedure done, those who underwent placement of venous access were those who expressed intense pain in 52.2%. After application of the scale of Susan Givens Bell a high incidence of severe pain in neonates was determined after being subjected to an offender, may serve as a preliminary protocol for the assessment of pain.
