Abandono familiar y consecuencias psicosociales en los adultos mayores de la unidad de atención domiciliaria Quilanga del proyecto envejeciendo juntos, en la actualidad

Family abandonment is a current problem in our country, seriously affecting the emotional and social well-being of older adults, who often find themselves unprotected and without the necessary support from their families to lead a dignified life. The objective of this research was to analyze the effect of family abandonment and its impact on the emotional state of older adults in the Quilanga Home Care Unit of the “Envejeciendo Juntos” Project. The psychosocial consequences that influenced the family abandonment of older adults in that unit were investigated. The study adopted a mixed methodological approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques for a more complete understanding of the investigated phenomenon, an inductive-deductive method was used. Semi-structured interviews with Likert scale were applied to a sample of 38 older adults and a survey was applied to a social promoter, these techniques allowed determining the existence of factors that prevent the family from maintaining an adequate co-responsibility in the care of older adults. The methodology used included the descriptive method to analyze the categories and contrast them with the reality of the problems in which the users are immersed. The research design was cross-sectional; the descriptive approach offered an exhaustive analysis of the phenomena observed, examining the characteristics of neglect and the characteristics of the elderly
