Ամփոփում: | Gross motor skills is the ability acquired to execute general movements using different parts of the body, it allows children to develop coordination, balance, laterality, strength and speed, which is very important for their growth. Folkloric dance allows children to learn to control their body movements, improve coordination and be aware of their body in order to acquire balanced and coordinated movements, for this reason, the research aims to determine how folkloric dance helps to improve gross motor skills in children of the initial level II of the José Ángel Palacio Educational Unit. The design was quasi-experimental because the independent variable was manipulated to see its effects on the dependent variable, the mixed approach used in the analysis of the results obtained to determine the problem and the effect of the intervention, the methods: inductive - deductive, allowed to collect and analyze information to reach accurate conclusions, it was also complemented with the analytical - synthetic method, which served to choose the most important issues in the development of the research. The instrument used was the Psychomotor Evaluation Scale in Preschool by Cruz and Mazaira, applied to a sample of 23 children from 4 to 5 years old, from which it was obtained that in the pretest 70% of those evaluated were in the low parameter of gross motor skills, detonating difficulties in balance, coordination, laterality, flexibility and schema, coordination, laterality, flexibility and body scheme, in the application of the pretest there were no children in the good parameter, however after the application of the folkloric dance activities, 87% of the children reached this parameter, improving gross motor skills. Concluding that using folkloric dance as a methodological strategy in the classroom contributes significantly to the motor development of children.
