Zusammenfassung:Fertilization of fish ponds is a practice commonly used in extensive and semi-intensive systems, a technique that promotes rapid growth of phytoplankton, phytobenthos and insects. This research evaluated the effect of urea on the physicochemical parameters of the water and on the productive indicators of black tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The experimental work was carried out in the Santa Rosa neighborhood, Paquisha canton, Zamora Chinchipe province, in two 225 m2 ponds, with a planting density of 15 fry/m2. Two treatments were compared: a control pond and a pond with chemical fertilizer (urea), at a dose of 1 g/m2/week for three months. The results showed that fertilization decreased pH and increased dissolved solids leading to higher turbidity. In addition, the productive parameters improved, obtaining a final weight of 69.71 g in the fertilized pond, compared to 63.87 g in the control pond. Feed consumption was higher in the fertilized pond (309.41 kg vs. 281.48 kg) and feed conversion was more efficient (5.52 g vs. 6.42 g). On the other hand, mortality was higher in the fertilized pond at 1.24% and 0.41% in the control pond. Profitability was better in the fertilized pond, with 61.49 % and 58.75 % in the control pond. In conclusion, urea fertilization has an impact on water quality and tilapia production parameters by increasing the phytobloom of the pond.
