Crynodeb:In Ecuador, Andean forests are ecosystems very important for their biological diversity and ecological variation. Despite their great importance, they have been little studied and subjected to constant anthropic intervention that has caused strong impacts on biodiversity and the ecological goods and services that these ecosystems possess. In southern Ecuador this ecosystem is part of the Podocarpus National Park, located between the provinces of Loja and Zamora Chinchipe and due to its high biological diversity and endemism; it represents the core area of the Podocarpus - El Cóndor Biosphere Reserve. A floristically interesting site within the Park is Cajanuma, located on the western limit (2 750 m a.s.l.). In this scenario, the project led by the George August University of Göttingen Germany is carried out, in agreement with the Herbarium "Reinaldo Espinosa" LOJA, under which the present investigation was developed with the purpose of evaluating the shrub and herbaceous floristic diversity in a plot permanent (1 ha) in the Cajanuma sector; and, determine the state of conservation and endemism of the registered species. The plot is divided into 25 quadrants of 400 m2, within each one a subplot of 25 m2 was installed for the shrub layer and a 4 m2 subplot for the herbaceous. The flora was registered and structural parameters were determined: relative density, relative frequency, simplified importance value index and diversity indices: Shannon-Wiener and Pielou Equity. In the shrub stratum, 2,441 individuals of 32 species, 15 genera and 10 families were found; and, in the herbaceous 465 individuals of 28 species, 21 genera and 19 families. Rubiaceae, Melastomataceae, Piperaceae, Dryopteridaceae, Aspleniaceae y Campanulaceae are the most representative families. Ecologically important species are Rhipidocladum harmonicum, Miconia sp. 2 y Piper sp. (shrubs); y, Peperomia sp., Polystichum dubium y Blechnum fragile (herbs). Diversity is medium with a tendency to high diversity, which refers to slightly homogeneous strata in abundance. Three endemic species were recorded, two shrubs: Chusquea falcata y Miconia namandensis, in a Vulnerable category (VU), and a herbaceous Centropogon hartwegii, it is Endangered (EN). The shrub and herbaceous components are floristically diverse, confirming the floristic importance of southern Ecuador.
