| Sumari: | Exclusive breastfeeding is the right food for children under 6 months old, protects them from potentially pathogenic germs, adapts to the child's needs since it contains hormones, growth factors, modulators and anti-inflammatory components. Human milk contains important amounts of immunoglobulins, lysozyme, lactoferrin, analog receptors and leukocytes represented by T and B lymphocytes, macrophages, granulocytes and; According to the latest national maternal and child survey in Ecuador, the average time of exclusive breastfeeding is 3 months, with a prevalence of 39.6% (Instituto Nacional de Estadisticas y Censos, 2012). The present investigation is of descriptive type that was carried out with 100 mothers of the Motupe neighborhood of the city of Loja, had a quantitative-qualitative approach; It was decided to determine the factors associated with the abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding, a survey and interview with key informants was applied, the analysis was based on the bibliographic review; The results show that; The educational level of these mothers is low, their main occupation is domestic chores, as the main biological factor of abandonment is hypogalactia and painful nipples, within social factors we have insufficient motivation to breastfeed and a significant percentage in the absence of information; In terms of cultural factors, the preference for feeding with milk formula and the use of the bottle, in addition some of these mothers refer to their concern about changes in their esthetics due to breastfeeding, all by influence of the mass media.
