Human milk contains important amounts of immunoglobulins, lysozyme, lactoferrin, analog receptors and leukocytes represented by T and B lymphocytes, macrophages, granulocytes and; According to the latest national maternal and child survey in Ecuador, the average time of exclusive breastfeeding is 3 months, with a prevalence of 39.6% (Instituto Nacional de Estadisticas y Censos, 2012). The present investigation is of descriptive type that was carried out with 100 mothers of the Motupe neighborhood of the city of Loja, had a quantitative-qualitative approach; It was decided to determine the factors associated with the abandonment of exclusive breastfeeding, a survey and interview with key informants was applied, the analysis was based on the bibliographic review; The results show that; The educational level of these mothers is low, their main occupation is domestic chores, as the main biological factor of abandonment is hypogalactia and painful nipples, within social factors we have insufficient motivation to breastfeed and a significant percentage in the absence of information; In terms of cultural factors, the preference for feeding with milk formula and the use of the bottle, in addition some of these mothers refer to their concern about changes in their esthetics due to breastfeeding, all by influence of the mass media. Key words: breastfeeding, biological, social, cultural factors.

Key words: breastfeeding, biological, social, cultural factors.La lactancia materna exclusiva es el alimento adecuado para los niños menores de 6 meses, los protege de gérmenes potencialmente patógenos, se adapta a las necesidades del niño ya que contiene hormonas, factores de crecimiento, moduladores y componentes antiinflamatorios. La leche humana contiene cantidades importantes de inmunoglobulinas, lisozima, lactoferrina, receptores análogos y leucocitos representados por linfocitos T y B, macrófagos, granulocitos y; de acuerdo a la última encuesta nacional materno infantil en Ecuador el tiempo promedio de lactancia exclusiva es de 3 meses, con una prevalencia de 39.6% (Instituto Nacional de Estadisticas y Censos, 2012). La presente investigación es de tipo descriptivo que se realizó con 100 madres del Barrio Motupe de la ciudad de Loja, tuvo un enfoque cuantitativo-cualitativo; se planteó determinar los factores asociados al abandono de la Lactancia Materna exclusiva, se aplicó encuesta y entrevista a informantes clave, el análisis se lo realizó en base a la revisión bibliográfica; los resultados demuestran que; el nivel educacional de estas madres es bajo, su ocupación mayoritaria es quehaceres domésticos, como principal factor biológico de abandono se destaca la hipogalactia y los pezones dolorosos, dentro de los factores sociales tenemos la insuficiente motivación para amamantar y un porcentaje importante en la falta de información ; en cuanto a factores culturales se encuentra la preferencia de alimentación con fórmula láctea y el uso del biberón, además algunas de estas madres hacen referencia a su preocupación por cambios en su estética debido a la lactancia materna, todo ello por influencia de los más medios.
