Summary:Formative evaluation has become an essential process in current education, especially in complex subjects such as Physics. The objective of this research is to analyze the theoretical approaches to formative evaluation applied in the subject of Physics, and therefore it is supported by specific objectives that determine the activities to be developed. The methodology used was a field research, complemented with the incorporation of instruments such as: documentary analysis record card, student survey and teacher interview, to obtain relevant data of the formative evaluation process carried out in the institution. After the data collection process, it became evident that there is no close relationship between what was planned and what was explained by teachers and students; however, areas for improvement were identified, such as the need to train teachers in the implementation of formative evaluation and feedback. It is recommended to emphasize the diversity of each student and to use feedback at all times. Key words: assessment, teaching-learning, physics, feedback, formative.
