Тойм: | Orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances provide a suitable environment for the development of plaque, bands, brackets, wires, greatly increasing the risk of tooth decay in these patients. Objective: To determine the relationship of tooth decay and orthodontic fixed, its prevalence according to gender and an age range already determined. Methodology: A descriptive study and transversely cutting on students of the National University of Loja, 18 to 30 years of age, mode of classroom studies, period May - July 2014; the universe of this study was 874 students comprising those who are between the ages of 18 to 30 years selected by random sampling; I'll take the sample consisted of 91 students who are bearers fixed orthodontics; began with a strict protocol for data collection in the medical record, then the oral examination was performed and finished with a photographic record. Results: We found that the correlation of tooth decay and orthodontic fixed. Conclusions: fixed orthodontic students 65.93% of them had tooth decay, while students without fixed orthodontic 49.16% had tooth decay; in patients with fixed orthodontic age range most affected by tooth decay was 18 - 21 years with 81.66%; and gender with higher prevalence of tooth decay was females 55%.
