Summary:Teacher training in higher education and the care of students with visual impairments is an important research topic to ensure quality teaching that adapts to the changing needs of students, technological advances and the demands of the academic and social environment. The objectives of the research were: To determine the level of teacher training for the care of students with visual impairments in higher education, to know the perception of teachers regarding the interest in training and, to identify the topics, type and frequency of training that teachers require to ensure effective care for the diversity of students with visual impairments. A descriptive and transversal methodology was used, with a mixed quantitative and qualitative approach, applying analytical-synthetic, deductive-inductive methods. The techniques used were the survey and the interview, through a questionnaire addressed to the teachers of the Distance Education Unit; as well as the semi-structured interview addressed to the academic manager of the Pedagogy of Experimental Sciences degree. The results found indicate that 55.6% of the sample has received specific training in attention to students with visual disabilities, 55.6% of the sample considers it very important and expresses their interest in receiving training related to attention to students with visual disabilities, with 66.7% highlighting the need to learn about the use of technologies, teaching methods and learning assessment, 60% indicating that the type of training preferred is faceto-face courses, 55.6% of the sample indicating that the frequency of training programs should be offered in each academic period. It is necessary to recommend training teachers on attention to students with visual disabilities, taking into account what is evidenced in the results obtained in this research
