Summary:Pneumonia associated to intubation and mechanical ventilation is a complication with high incidence, morbidity and mortality; it have very particular characteristics that distinguish from nosocomial pneumonia in non-intubated patients. To determine the incidence of nosocomial pneumonia associated to mechanical ventilation in patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital "Teófilo Davila Machala" during the period from September to December 2015. Transversal, descriptive and retrospective study. The show featured a total of 28 patients of which were intubated, 8 of them developed nosocomial pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation. Data collection was performed in the review and extraction of the information provided through medical history. Results: The incidence of nosocomial pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation was 29% of intubated. The most affected age group was high 54 years old. In our study, the incidence of nosocomial pneumonia associated with mechanical ventilation with 37.5% approaches to data obtained from international studies.
