| Zusammenfassung: | The family is the nucleus composed for people united by kin of consanguinity, affinity, adoption, or affective kinship relations. The family dysfunction is generated when intra-family relationships are affected, which inclines the young adolescent to peer groups, which can attract harmful habits that carry risks to health, family disintegration and dysfunctionality. Therefore, the present study determined the consumption of alcohol and cigarette and relation with the family structure and functionality in high school students of the Technological Institute Nuestra Señora del Rosario of Catamayo. To know the frequency and quantity of alcohol and cigarette consumption, to evaluate their consumption according sex and age, to identify family structure and functionality, to analyze the influence of alcohol and cigarette on family relationships and to recognize the factors that influenced their consumption. A cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out, with a population of 544 adolescents from the high school: the sample of 225 students, with 30% consume cigarette, 82% are male; 87% of students consume Alcohol, 56% are Male; students who consume alcohol and cigarette with 72% have intra-family emotional problems, 38% receive psychological abuse and 29% physical abuse; it is concluded that 41% of students who consume alcohol and 43% of those who consume tobacco have mild family dysfunction; the main factors that influence the consumption of these substances are family problems, with 22.5% in alcohol users and 24% in tobacco users.
