Тойм:The weevil Zabrotes subfasciatus (Boheman) (Coleoptera; Bruchidae), is one of the main pests of beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) causing damage to stored grains, causing damage to the cotyledons, the grains are covered with eggs and have perforations that correspond to the feeding chambers of the insects, which causes a significant loss of weight of the grain. To control and reduce the damage caused by these insects, chemical control is currently used in several countries, which is harmful to human health and causes environmental contamination. However, the use of essential oils extracted from plants with active compounds is a sustainable tool for managing stored grain pests. In the present research, the essential oil of Artemisia sodiroi was extracted and its mortality, repellency and proliferation activities against Zabrotes subfasciatus were evaluated. The chemical analysis by gas chromatography performed on the essential oil determined that its main chemical compounds are cis-Chrysanthenol (48,75 %), 1, 8-Cineole (15,54 %) and α-Pinene (7,15 %). The essential oil of Artemisia sodiroi revealed that it is toxic against adults of Zabrotes subfasciatus at the different concentrations (5 % [LC5], 25 % [LC25], 50 % [LC50], 75 % [LC75] and 95 % [LC95]). Artemisia sodiroi was able to repel adult weevils at all concentrations (CL), since there was a significant difference. The proliferation of Zabrotes subfasciatus revealed that in reproduction there is a significant incidence between the control and the application of a lethal concentration, in the loss of bean mass there is a greater loss of grain in the concentrations other than CL95, which showed a statistical difference with respect to the control. Therefore, it is concluded that this research can be a tool for future studies in the management of stored grain pests.
