description The present investigation has been realized in the are of neonatology in the Isidro Ayora Hospital located in the city of Loja, with purpose of establishing the relationship between the type of birth and its influence on the development of the respiratory distress syndrome on neonates patients in the Isidro Ayora Hospital during the period or months of May- October 2013; Aside from its influence, this research will undergoes its investigation on the relationship that exist between gestional age, weight and sex in patients with respiratory distress syndrome; identify the factors that exist in medical decision making of the types of births and strengthen the control strategies that are used to prevent respiratory distress syndrome, with institutional and community workshops. This is a quantitive, descriptive, observational and retrospective study; for the gathering of our data we used the clinic history (maternal-neonate) and neonatology of H.I.A Records –Loja; we also applied simple random sampling acquiring samples of 78 neonates with RDS, born under normal birth or C-section. In terms of the results and conclusions we can say that Respiratory Distress Syndrome occurs most frequently in patients who undergo a C-Section, being perinatal pneumonia (RDS Type II) the principal cause (42.31%) in neonates terms (38.46%), with adequate weight for its gestational weight (37.18%), of male sex (37.18%), of female sex (33.33%) within the factors that influence the undergo f a c-section finding the previous c-section (20.75%) Key terms: Types of RDS, Types of births, Maternal and Fetal Factors

In terms of the results and conclusions we can say that Respiratory Distress Syndrome occurs most frequently in patients who undergo a C-Section, being perinatal pneumonia (RDS Type II) the principal cause (42.31%) in neonates terms (38.46%), with adequate weight for its gestational weight (37.18%), of male sex (37.18%), of female sex (33.33%) within the factors that influence the undergo f a c-section finding the previous c-section (20.75%) Key terms: Types of RDS, Types of births, Maternal and Fetal FactorsLa presente investigación se realizó en el servicio de Neonatología del Hospital Isidro Ayora de la ciudad de Loja, con la finalidad de establecer la relación entre el tipo de parto y su influencia en el desarrollo del Síndrome de Dificultad Respiratoria en Neonatos atendidos en el Hospital Isidro Ayora durante el periodo mayo – octubre del 2013; además está dirigida a investigar la relación que existe entre la edad gestacional, el peso y sexo con el Síndrome de Dificultad Respiratoria; identificar los factores que inciden en la decisión médica sobre el tipo de parto y fortalecer las estrategias de control del Síndrome de Dificultad Respiratoria con procesos de capacitación institucional y comunitaria; es un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo, observacional y retrospectivo; para la recolección de datos se utilizó las historias clínicas materno – neonatal y registros del Servicio de Neonatología del H.I.A.- Loja, además se aplicó la fórmula del muestreo aleatorio simple de donde se obtuvo una muestra a 78 neonatos con SDR, nacidos por parto vaginal o cesárea; en cuanto a los resultados y conclusiones podemos decir que el Síndrome de Dificultad Respiratoria se presenta con mayor frecuencia en el parto por cesárea, siendo la Neumonía Perinatal (SDR Tipo II) la causa principal (42,31%), en neonatos a términos (38,46%), con peso adecuado para la edad gestacional (37,18%), de sexo masculino (33,33%), dentro de los factores que incidieron en la toma de decisión para realizar una cesárea se encuentra la cesárea anterior con un (20,75%).
