| Summary: | Depression and nutritional status in the elderly is determined by the process of aging, both depression and nutritional status have significant effects on overall health, quality of life, morbidity and mortality in older adults. Through this research seeks to establish the levels of depression in older adults and their impact on the nutritional status in patients who come to the health of subcentre No. 4 of the parish the Swan, Canton Loja, province of Loja. The methodology included the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), a screening tool exclusively for older adults that evaluates anthropometric parameters, styles of life, dietary assessment and self-perception of health and nutrition status. By using the Geriatric Depression Scale Yesavage determined the level of depression. With the statistical program (JMP) examined the relationship between variables. It is concluded that depression affects 27% to nutritional status. 57.33 % of the population in the study do not have depression, 40% is moderate to severe depression, while 2.67 % presents severe depression; of which the 65.33 % have a normal nutritional status, while 28% is at risk for poor nutrition, and 6.67 % in poor nutrition. And finally he was able to build a proposal of intervention for the parish the Swan with the aim of improving the quality of life of older adults of that place.
