Conocimientos y prácticas sobre autocuidado del acceso vascular en pacientes hemodializados del hospital Isidro Ayora de Loja,

The vascular accesses are indicated for removal of blood, administration of drugs, nutrients elements and treatment of hemodialysis; they are related to complications that increase the morbidity and mortality, so it should take specific care to avoid risks. This research work is descriptive was planned to determine knowledge and practices on self-care of vascular access for hemodialysis patients of “Isidro Ayora” hospital in Loja. We worked with 48 patients aged between 17 to 85 years, from them, the 85.42% ported arteriovenous fistula (AVF) and 14.58% venous central catheter. The instrument used for the collection of the information was a structured interview. We could verify that a high percentage of users have knowledge on vascular access, on aspects related to: reasons to have it, identifying alarm signals and little knowledge about complications. Patients with fistula in high percentage evaluate the performance of access; they protect the end of compression or trauma, they keep it clean; they care it to be used exclusively for hemodialysis; they observe measures to prevent post-dialysis bleeding; but there are patients who raise weight, hold their body on the arm of the fistula, remove the dressing the same day, and do not moisturize their skin and neglect their nails; therefore, it could promote risks of complications. Patients with central venous catheter follow some rules to prevent thrombosis, like: protect from shocks, pressures and tractions; however, the care to prevent contamination of the access is inadequate, noting that a high percentage wet dressing while bathing, don't care their skin and nails; so it is important that people continue educating users to strengthen their knowledge and encourage self-care practices what are fundamental aspects for the prevention of complications.
