Shrnutí:The present research work was based on the analysis of two study variables; laboratory practices as an independent variable and discovery learning as a dependent variable. In addition, it was developed under the main objective of investigating whether physics laboratory practices as a didactic strategy promote learning by discovery of solid mechanics, in second-year students of the Unified General Baccalaureate, parallel A, of the Millennium Educational Unit Bernardo Valdivieso from the city of Loja, evening section, year 2019. In order to meet the stated objectives, a structured observation was made of the classes taught by the teacher and after that, the results of the laboratory practices applied as a didactic strategy by the researcher were analyzed. The analysis of the observations showed that the traditional pedagogical model used by the teacher does not allow the students to develop their skills, abilities and desire to learn, that is, it does not favor discovery learning. While in the analysis of the result of the application of the laboratory practices, a positive response was evidenced by the students to the implementation of a new didactic strategy, creating in turn a more interactive work environment that allows them to enhance their ability intellectual through experimentation. Finally, to comply with one of the objectives proposed in the research, the level of learning by discovery in the students was evaluated through a questionary designed by the researcher; which corroborated the analysis mentioned above. Therefore, it is concluded that discovery learning in the evaluated students is promoted from the application of physics laboratory practices as a didactic strategy.
