Levantamiento geológico-estructural de la zona norte de la parroquia Saraguro del cantón Saraguro de la provincia de Loja a escala 1:50.000.

The " STRUCTURAL GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF THE SARAGURO PARISH SOUTH ZONE, CANTON SARAGURO, PROVINCE OF LOJA " was elaborated by means of a previous diagnosis of the area to be studied, compiling all the topographic, geomorphological and hydrological information, Geological, among others, that allow to have a clear panorama of the lithology of the zone and the structural characteristics that allowed to determine the formation of the geological units. The survey was carried out on the basis of the Saraguro topographic chart and part of the Selva Alegre chart in a scale of 1: 50.000, in which the most current geological studies were georeferenced, first the Geological Cartography carried out by the Instituto Geográfico Militar In 1973 using the scale of 1: 100.000 and the Cartographic and Geological information of the Western Cordillera of Ecuador, studies carried out by British investigators in 1997. For the mapping, a tour of the most representative outcrops on roads, roads, rivers and ravines was carried out, covering an area of 23.10 km2; In addition to the structures interpretation, it was taken into account the guidelines, contacts, faults, folds and diaclases, which allowed to give a stratigraphic relationship between the lithological units, among other characteristics. Throughout the western zone of the study zone a great extension of rhyolitic tuffs was found of low weatherization, towards the North-East they appear fine-grained dactic tuffs, in the central zone they emerge volcanic breccias, defined as a flow gap With a fine, welded and rhyolitic matrix. In the south-east of the area, black andesites of black color, which refer to geodynamics and post-volcanic processes, appear along the Paquisha River. With all the information gathered in the field, the interpretation of data in the office and the mineralogical analysis of the samples collected in the field, it was possible to determine the lithological units, to infer contacts and have a result of the geology and structures of the northern area of the Saraguro parish.
