| Riassunto: | The research aims at implementing the Myofunctional therapy to decrease the atypical swallowing in children with Down syndrome in the Special Education Unit CADE city of Loja. Analytic-synthetic, inductive, descriptive, quantitative and qualitative methods, instruments such as: guidelines for assessment of atypical swallowing to conduct the research methods as were used. These methods and tools were used to obtain the results of the problem. As a result of the investigation it was determined that: Initially there was a higher prevalence of mild atypical swallowing in children with Down syndrome. Myofunctional Therapy model that was used, improved the atypical swallowing in children with Down syndrome. Application of the Myofunctional Therapy Atypical swallowing improved by performing activities such as rehabilitation and strengthening of the position and increased muscle tone of the language. The Myofunctional therapy is beneficial in children with Down syndrome since it reduces the atypical swallowing. With these findings it was possible to make recommendations to the authorities of the center, therapists and parents, to perform an early diagnosis of atypical swallowing to know the state in which the child is and thus establish a treatment with a model Therapy that has been used in improving the atypical swallowing, allowing the intervention is most reliable. The research was important because through it, we could identify levels of atypical swallowing in children with Down syndrome and in turn was found that the myofunctional therapy contributes to its decline.
