| Summary: | In our country Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) are the main source of infections in outpatient and inpatient level. Today with the indiscriminate use of antibiotics and incomplete dosages traditional treatments have been diminished therapeutic efficacy. Cefuroxime antibiotic used in the treatment of UTI is a second-generation cephalosporin that offers a hedge against Gram negative microorganisms such as Escherichia coli (E. coli). This study is descriptive type of cross section. It was analyzed 146 urine cultures triplicate outpatients, of whom 87 were negative and 59 positive obtaining as germs identified the following: E.coli.spp (76%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (10%), Proteus vulgaris (8% ), Proteus mirabilis (5%). Macrodilution technique helps determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), which is very effective when studying the sensitivity of cefuroxime against E.coli.spp most common pathogen in IVU. After the identification of the 45 E.coli strains MIC macrodilution determined by the following results: Sensitive (51%), Resistant (29%) and Intermediate (20%), according to cut offs of CLSI M100 Manual -S25 2015, the control strain E. coli ATCC 25922 was tested throughout the analytical process. Finally the socialization of health personnel results HB-7 Loja was made. KEYWORDS: Escherichia coli, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration, Cefuroxime. |
