The research is a descriptive one; the universe was conformed of 92 mothers of children who attend to the CIVB. The techniques used for gathering information were a survey, and as an instrument, an inquiry of questions, the results were: about the knowledge about a greater percentage of mothers know the correct definition of diarrhea, how to prepare oral rehydration salts and oral homemade sera, but a large percentage of them do not know the risk factors, factors protectors, acute diarrheal disease symptoms, signs of dehydration and warning signs to prevent complications, regarding practices was obtained that most participants have adequate practices: about extra alimentation routines, measures for safe water consumption, elimination of waste and sewage, exclusive breastfeeding, cleaning of the bottle, liquid type and time to provide it during diarrhea and continued breastfeeding during diarrhea; while that there are inadequate practices about the presence of intradomiciliary animals, hand washing, care of the food before its preparation, continuity of daily food during the diarrhea. Key Words: Acute diarrheal disease, knowledge, practices, prevention.El tema de tesis titulado “CONOCIMIENTOS Y PRÁCTICAS SOBRE PREVENCIÓN Y MANEJO DE ENFERMEDAD DIARREICA AGUDA, EN MADRES DE NIÑOS/AS DEL CENTRO INFANTIL DEL BUEN VIVIR “JOSÉ MIGUEL CARRIÓN MORA” MIES, LOJA 2014 – 2015” tuvo como objetivo determinar los conocimientos y las prácticas maternas sobre prevención y manejo de Enfermedad Diarreica Aguda. La investigación es de tipo descriptivo, el universo estuvo constituido por 92 madres de familia de los niños/as que asisten al CIVB. Para recoger la información se utilizó la encuesta, y como instrumento, un cuestionario de preguntas, los resultados señalan que las madres definen correctamente al problema de diarrea, y conocen la forma de preparación de sales de rehidratación oral y el suero oral casero; sin embargo desconocen los factores de riesgo, factores protectores, síntomas de Enfermedad Diarreica Aguda, señales de deshidratación y signos de alarma para prevenir complicaciones; la mayoría de participantes tienen prácticas adecuadas sobre: alimentación adicional, medidas para el consumo de agua segura, eliminación de aguas servidas y negras, lactancia materna exclusiva, limpieza del biberón, tipo de líquido y tiempo que transcurre para brindarlo después del episodio diarreico y la continuidad de la lactancia materna durante la diarrea; además se pudo determinar que las madres tienen practicas inadecuadas las que se relacionan con la presencia de animales intradomiciliarios, lavado de manos, cuidado de los alimentos previo a su ingesta y preparación, continuación de la alimentación durante la diarrea.
