| Sumari: | COPD is a pathological process characterized by the limitation of respiratory, in this work has shown that the factors that lead to the development of COPD are similar to previousresearch. That is why this research aimed to identify the triggers of COPD in older adults residing in th Hogar Cristo Rey of the city of Cuenca. Given the descriptive nature, quantitativeapproach, observational type, of retrospective cross-sectional cohort, data from medical records of patients diagnosed with COPD residing in the Hogar Cristo Rey in the city of Cuencawere thoroughly analyzed in the period from 2015 to 2020. Having as general objective to determine what are the triggering factors of COPD in older adults of the Hogar Cristo Rey in the city of Cuenca and as specific objectives to determine sociodemographic characteristics ofolder adults, identify the predominant risk factor in older adults diagnosed with COPD and describe the role they play Daily habits in the development of COPD in older adults diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The information obtained indicatesthat the malesex between the ages of 65 and 74 represents 39.70%, agriculture with 47.62%, the rural area with 82.54%; the smoking habit of 11 to 20 cigarettes 39.70% and passive smokers 38.10%, being main factors of COPD, to which the use of biomass as solid fuel is added in 57.14%. When comparing these results with others from different studies, they allow us to assess certaincharacteristics that in one way or another may influence the interpretation and comparison of the results |
