Gaia: | The use of medicinal plants for therapeutic purposes is a very common traditional practice in the general population due to its easy accessibility. Pregnant and postpartum women are no exception, since they prefer organic medicine due to its natural origin. The general objective of the research was “To determine the traditional use of medicinal plants in pregnant and postpartum women in the native communities of the Zamora parish of the Zamora 4onclu”, and the specific ones were “To identify the medicinal plants most used by pregnant and postpartum women” , “Specify the use of medicinal plants according to the stage of pregnancy and puerperium” and “Characterize the forms of preparation of the medicinal plants used”, for which a mixed approach study was carried out. Used a personal survey to record information about medicinal plants used during pregnancy or puerperium, which was applied to 68 pregnant and postpartum women, where the following results were obtained: 51.47% of women stated that they had used at least one medicinal plant, chamomile (35.00%) It was the most used plant during pregnancy and its main therapeutic objectives were abdominal pain, washings and insomnia, while the most used plant during the puerperium was fennel (23.08%) with the aim of increasing milk; On the other hand, the main way of preparing medicinal plants was infusion. In conclusion, the frequency of use of medicinal plants is 51.47%, the most used medicinal plant during pregnancy was chamomile, while during the postpartum period it was fennel. The main therapeutic objectives during pregnancy were to reduce abdominal pain, washings and infection, while during the postpartum period they were used to increase milk and healing from the cesarean section.
