| Résumé: | This study aims to understand how occupational health impacts the performance of workers in the emergency department of Isidro Ayora General Hospital in Loja, and what the role of the social worker is in this context. To carry out the research, surveys were conducted with emergency department employees and interviews with the hospital's social workers. The surveys collected information on occupational health conditions and employee job performance, while the interviews provided a more detailed view of the role of social workers in managing occupational health. The results show that occupational health conditions in the emergency department are suboptimal, affected by factors such as job stress, long working hours, and lack of adequate resources. Additionally, a positive but weak, relationship between occupational health and job performance was discovered. This suggests that although occupational health influences performance, it is not the sole decisive factor. Other elements, such as organizational management and institutional support, are also crucial for job performance. An important finding of this study was that social workers are not involved in any processes related to occupational health within the hospital. This lack of involvement represents a missed opportunity, as social workers can significantly contribute to employee well-being. In conclusion, this study indicates that improving occupational health can positively affect the job performance of emergency department workers, although it is not the only influencing factor. It is recommended that social workers be included in occupational health processes to leverage their potential to promote workplace well-being and improve working conditions in the emergency department. |
