Zusammenfassung:This research study was carried out in Orianga Parish, Paltas Canton, Province of Loja, with the purpose of evaluating the effect of two supplementary rations based on sugar cane and palm-kernel in the fattening of mixed breed, young beef-bulls, that are being grazed. This study took a period of 90 days, with 15 Brahman mixed breed animals 15 to 18 months of age, and an average weight of 372,3 kg of p.v.; each animal was an experimental unit. Three experimental groups of five animals were formed using randomized block design. The evaluated treatments were: T1 ration with 10% of palm kernel, T2 ration with 20% of palm kernel and T3 witness only grazing. The following variables were studied: bromate-logical composition of grass and rations, consumption food, weight gain, feed conversion, profitability and benefit cost ratio; analysis of variance and Tukey test in each of the variables was conducted. The results show an appreciable content of protein of Prairie grasses (Brachiaria decumbens y Setaria splendida) with an average of 9.7% of P.C., however the fiber content was high; supplementary rations showed small variations in the content of dry matter and crude protein values averages 44.8% of M.S., and 21.7% of P.C., respectively; While the fiber content ranged between 13 and 16 % of F.C. There was increased consumption of food (p≤0. 001) in the treatment one and two with 13.4 kg of M.S., per day; treatment one achieved greater weight gain (891 g) and better feed conversion (15.0 kg), (p≤0, 001); While economic indicators were acceptable in the three experimental groups. To concluded, the provision of supplementary rations improved technical and economic indicators in the meat cattle in the province of Loja Key words: young beef bull, rations, grazed, palm-kernel, rentability.
