Valoración de la capacidad funcional y factores asociados en adultos mayores de los asilos de la ciudad de Loja.

There are few data about valuation of functional capacity in senior adults and even more to the functionality and degree of dependence with which it is related. In several studies around the world it match that about 1 in 3 older adults come to have some degree of dependence. It is because of that was considered convenient to carry out this study called: "VALUATION OF THE FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY AND ASSOCIATED FACTORS IN SENIOR ADULTS OF THE ALMSHOUSES OF THE CITY LOJA. Witch general objetive was to investigate the degree of functional capacity and the factors to which they are associated, in order to construct a prevention proposal guided to the maintenance of the functionality. In order to lograte this it was proposed: to identify the functionality of the elderly and to detect the associated factors to establish a relationship between dependence and associated factors to be able to make a preventive proposal guided to the functional maintenance thereof. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 69 older adults, using a quiz and the Barthel Index. The highest percentage was found with slight dependence in 45%. Only 20, 3% are independent. Also the diseases related to dependence were Arterial hypertension, affectation of the sense organs and the presence of fractures, in addition the female gender was the most dependent with 53.6%. At the same time, the age of 85 years and over was more dependent. The most dependent marital status was unmarried with 33.3%.
