Distorsiones cognitivas y dependencia emocional en estudiantes de la carrera de Trabajo Social de la Universidad Nacional de Loja, período-2022

The human tendency to establish affective bonds with other people is part of social and emotional development. The problem arises when in a relationship, one of the members manifests an extreme affective need for the other, thus resulting in asymmetrical, conflictive and not so healthy relationships. The literature suggests that the presence of certain cognitive distortions could influence the development and maintenance of dependent bonds. That is why this research is aimed to determine the relationship between emotional dependence and cognitive distortions. A quantitative, descriptive-correlational cross-sectional approach was used, in which 70 students of the Social Work career at the National University of Loja, ages between 18 and 29 years, participated and were selected through an intentional nonprobabilistic sampling. The instruments used were: sociodemographic survey, Emotional Dependence Questionnaire of Lemos and Londoño and Automatic Thought Inventory of Ruiz and Lujan. The results suggest that there is a statistically significant relationship between cognitive distortions and emotional dependence. This correlation shows that, at a higher level of emotional dependence, there is a greater presence of cognitive distortions. The cognitive distortions with the highest scores in students with emotional dependency were: fallacy of divine reward at a high level and at a medium level, filtering or selective abstraction, polarized thinking, overgeneralization, fallacy of change, the shoulds, fallacy of control and catastrophic vision
