| Streszczenie: | Primary dysmenorrhea is a clinical entity characterized by menstrual cramping pain of varying intensity and unidentified etiology, which most frequently affects women in adolescence up to 25 years of age and has been associated with complications in the daily life of women. Objective: To determine the impact of primary dysmenorrhea in adolescents in secondary education in educational units in the city of Loja during the period October 2022-March 2023. Descriptive, cross-sectional cohort research with quantitative approach was conducted in two educational units of the city of Loja and the following instruments were applied: information collection sheet, Andersh and Milson pain severity assessment, Beck depression inventory for children and adolescents, Beck anxiety inventory and KIDSCREEN 27 inventory to assess quality of life. The study included 296 female students between 12 and 17 years of age, residents of the city of Loja. The results showed that 71% of the adolescents suffered from primary dysmenorrhea, 46.7% had moderate pain intensity and had accompanying symptoms such as abdominal distension, asthenia and muscle weakness; 47.64% had mild anxiety, while 83.49% showed no signs of depression; 60.38% perceived that their academic performance was affected and their quality of life was low in relation to physical activity, psychological dimension and interaction with parents. Thus, it is concluded that primary dysmenorrhea is highly prevalent in adolescents and has a negative impact on their school performance, psychological state and quality of life; therefore, the approach to menstrual health and associated complications should be increased |
