| Shrnutí: | The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of subclinical mastitis in crossbred cows milked manually (OM) or mechanically (OME). 80 cows were examined from farms in the parish of Nambacola, in the Canton of Gonzanamá. The California Mastitis Test (CMT) was carried out during field testing and in the laboratory, bacteriological cultures resulted in the identification of S. aureus. It was established that the prevalence of subclinical mastitis (68.4%) was higher in the South (77.8%). The result obtained for Staphylococcus aureus was (16.40%). The CMT manifested a prevalence in the anterior and posterior quarters (59.8%) and (40.2%) respectively. No association of mastitis by age or race using the chi-square test was found only from the influence of the factors associated with the mastitis disease. The results of this study indicate the need to include S. aureus in the evaluation of treatment for bovine mastitis, and without doubt provide elements useful in designing measures to control this pathogen.
