Summary:The research entitled: STIMULATION OF HIGHER BRAIN FUNCTIONS, TO PREVENT COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT IN ADULTS IN THE STAGE OF PREELDERLY, FROM CLODOVEO JARAMILLO ALVARADO CITADEL, IN THE PERIOD 2020-2021, had as general objective, propose activities of stimulation of higher brain functions, to prevent cognitive impairment in adults who are in the stage of preelderly. The qualitative and descriptive cross-sectional methodology was applied to develop this research, as well as a non-experimental design and scientific, inductive, deductive, analysis and synthesis methods; the technique used for the research was a survey and, as a psychometric instrument, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) due it is a highly effective instrument to detect Cognitive Impairment, both applied to ten pre-elder adults, who live in the Clodoveo Jaramillo Alvarado citadel. The first was applied with the aim of identifying whether the population sample referred subjective complaints about the performance of their intellectual faculties; the second was applied to objectively determine whether or not the participants demonstrate a real decline in their brain functions and whether or not it is expected or pathological, because this would determined on the basis of the results whether or not they would be able to participate with the intervention proposal of the present investigation case it is only designed to work with healthy individuals, in which the development of Cognitive Impairment will be prevented through stimulation. The main results determined that, of the ten people studied, two are possible Mild Cognitive Impairment cases being exempt from participating in the intervention proposal; while the remaining eight have a normal deterioration, that is, expected for their age, in which it is evident that the higher brain functions most affected are visuospatial/executive, memory and language; however, they do not significantly interfere with the performance of activities of daily life, being considered as healthy people. It was concluded that it is necessary that this group of adults without Cognitive Impairment receive stimulation of superior brain functions as a measure of prevention emphasizing memory, language and visual perception, since they do not perform because they do not engage in cognitive-stimulating activities intentionally and specifically; therefore, it is recommended that the intervention proposal be applied on a regular basis, in small groups and with trained personnel to maximize the effectiveness of the activities.
