الملخص:The present work of investigation constitutes the geological study to scale 1: 5000 and inventory of movements in Mass for the extension of channel Campana Malacatos Irrigation in the sector San José, Parroquia Malacatos, Canton Loja, Province of Loja; with a surface of 315.92 Ha, that includes the towns: San Jose, San Jose de Ceibopamba and Santo Domingo. From the information provided by the Provincial Government of Loja, where a coordinate analysis was carried out, obtaining a topographic map at a scale of 1: 5000. With the help of the analyzed bibliographic information and photointerpretation, the verification, rectification and description of the most significant outcrops; where it was possible to identify two geological formations such as: San José Formation (Upper Miocene) constituted by clays with gypsum sheets, calcareous sandstones, arcosa and tuffs; as well as the Santo Domingo Formation (Middle Miocene) constituted by shales, conglomerates and andesitic tuffs; For the characterization of the geomaterials studied, three test pits were carried out in the San José sector, where granulometry tests, moisture content, classification according to the AASHTO standard and Atterberg limits were applied; obtaining as a result that samples two and three belong to inorganic clay of high plasticity, while the sample one belongs to organic silty clay of low plasticity. Different typologies of mass movements were documented from the analysis, photo interpretation and field works. The identification and behavior of the factors that promote the occurrence of these movements was made based on the format proposed by the Andean Multinational project: Geosciences for the Andean Communities 2009. The information collected allowed the identification of two events, one of rotational type and the other of creep type as the main types of mass movements in the sector; they are currently in suspended status. The inventory generated serves as a basis for risk assessment by mass movement at the time of the expansion of the irrigation channel.
