Summary:This research was carried in the lumber mills of Loja city, with the purpose of assessing risks in order to design a risk management plan. The assessment was made of 17 companies, equivalent to 30% of the total number of the lumber mills in Loja city. The data collection technique used was direct observation, implementation of surveys and the Triple criteria matrix to estimate the physical, mechanical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, psychological risk factors of major accidents, to evaluate quantitatively the risks involved some of the measurements made, were in the parameters of noise level and illumination. The results showed that the noise of 31% of the mills violated the regulations and affected the health and safety of workers, while in the lighting parameter the rules were followed. The results next showed that the loading yard of the carpentry and machine areas are the zones where there is a high possibility of work accidents. The highest levels of work accidents are: major accidents, ergonomic, psychological, physical, and mechanical. The management plan proposed will serve to prevent and correct potential hazards found in the lumber mills in the city of Loja.
