Özet:Pre reading is the previous preparation that is given to the reader to read a text in detail facilitating its comprehension, this initial preparation leads to the activation of their prior knowledge with a fast reading to acquire a general idea of the content, for this reason the present research had as objective to determine how the pictograms strengthen pre-reading in the elementary school Unidad Educativa del Milenio Bernardo Valdivieso in Loja city, 2022-2023 school year, in which the quasi experimental design was used to show the impact of the intervention in the subject of the study; in addition, a quantitative approach was used to collect and analyze numerical data of the results obtained, in the same way, the description scope was used, likewise it was handled with the inductive- deductive and analytical-synthetic methods for the development of the investigation. In the same manner, for the elaboration of this study the observation technique was carried out and a Reversal Test was applied as an instrument to know the levels of pre-reading in twenty-nine children among five to six years. The results obtained in the pretest determined that 7% were found suitable for reading, meanwhile 69% were not fit presenting problems when recognizing their laterality, not decoding images, having difficulty in their imagination, and not following a stablished order. Thus, after the application of the guide "The magical village of images" based on pictograms these percentages improved with 76% being suitable for reading, while only 3% reflecting that they are not suitable. Therefore, it is determined that the pictograms increase the learning of the pre-reading process, allowing the child to have a greater ease when telling stories, stories just by observing images taking into account a stablished order an thus increasing the child's imagination and enriching their vocabulary.
