סיכום:Obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is the most frequent sleep disorder, episodes of hypoxia, hypercapnia and obstruction of the upper airway; non-repairing sleep causing daytime hypersomnolence, poor quality of life, increased risk of complications and traffic accidents (Herrero et. 2017). Ecuador does not have an established epidemiology, the present investigation had as objectives: to estimate the level of risk of suffering obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome by gender and age group, to establish which predisposing risk factors are present in people with intermediate and high risk, and, to value the degree of excessive daytime sleepiness in people with intermediate and high risk of developing obstructive sleep apnea syndrome of Sucre parish from the city of Loja. Taking a cross-sectional descriptive approach, 378 habitants were assessed through the STOP-Bang questionnaire and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale. The results indicated that 65.3 % (n=247) had low risk for OSAHS and 34.7 % (n=131) intermediate - high risk, with a major prevalence in men 53.95 % (n=82), around 50-60 years 40 % (n=26). The associated factors in the population with intermediate-high risk were: obesity 44.27 % (n=58), first degree relative with a history of OSAHS 41.98 % (n=55) and functional anatomical alterations 34.35 % (n=45); 63 % (n=82) of the population with these risk factors has excessive daytime sleepiness. It is concluded that men are at high risk, and, while advancing their age, they are more predisposed to develop OSAHS.
