| Sumari: | This research addresses the problem of low industrialization in the Ecuadorian context, since the country's economy has been dependent on primary products in its export matrix, which has led to a limited development of the manufacturing sector. In this context, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, a decrease of -13.9% has been recorded in sales in the manufacturing sector in 2020. The general objective of the study is to evaluate the link between human capital and the industrialization process in Ecuador, period 1990-2020, through statistical and econometric techniques, in order to propose policies aimed at enhancing human capital in the industrialization process. Data sources from the World Bank and Penn World Table have been used to extract variables such as industrialization, human capital, Foreign Direct Investment, trade and technology, the same that were used in the econometric time series models. Among the main results, it was found that there is a short- and long-term relationship between human capital and industrialization, which suggests that human capital plays an important role in the development and strengthening of the industrial sector in Ecuador. However, the models show the absence of a causal relationship between human capital and industrialization. Thus, it is suggested to establish training and capacity building programs to address the deficiencies identified in the current policies. In addition, it is essential to review and improve existing industrial policies to ensure a conducive environment for the development of the manufacturing industry. This includes implementing tax incentives, reducing bureaucratic barriers and the promotion of investment in strategic sectors. |
