| Crynodeb: | The present work was carried out with the purpose of designing and building a test bench for the diagnosis and testing of high voltage (HV) batteries used in hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). For this purpose, a HV battery pack from a 2015 Toyota Prius 3rd generation was used, which is constituted by 28 nickel metal-hydride (Ni-MH) modules. In this way, the modules were subjected to controlled charging and discharging processes to evaluate their performance, additionally an analysis of the other components present in the pack was carried out. Through the implementation of electronic components such as measuring instruments and manufacturing circuits that allow the application of constant charge and discharge rates, in addition to performing the processes in an automated manner, a test protocol developed from a set of investigations has been defined to recondition the modules and balance their charge level. With the help of an Arduino Mega ATmega2560 board and Matlab software, the real-time representation of the voltage curves by groups of three modules connected in series during the charge and discharge tests was performed. The use of the designed test protocol allowed to level the unbalanced charge of the battery modules, obtaining an average charge of 8.04V, which indicates a charge level higher than 80% according to the open circuit voltage value. The structure of the test bench is designed considering ergonomic and anthropometric criteria that guarantee ease of operation for the users. Three practical guides were developed focused on recognizing and performing checks of the components of an HV battery pack, carrying out the proposed charge/discharge test protocol for reconditioning Ni-MH battery modules and estimating the state of charge with the Coulomb count method. Keywords: battery, capacity, hybrid electric vehicle, reconditioning. |
