Samenvatting:The afore- mentioned work development was conducted in “Howard Johnson” hotel, it borders on Zoilo Rodriguez street to the north, Antisana street to the south and extension of May 24 th street to the west. It belongs to Sagrario parish, Loja canton, Loja province in Republic of Ecuador. The Howard Johnson Hotel from Loja city is a company dedicated to five stars´s accommodation service supply, it has a construction surface around 8400 m2 within which a number of guests accommodation's activities and process are developed such as: transfer Airport – Hotel; check in and handling foods; food´s storage and maintenance; food´s production for restaurants; laundry, bedroom´s lingerie, furnishing of restaurants and events (tablecloths and cloth napkin); cleaning of workplaces; auxiliary power generation; thermic water conditioning. The environmental management system for Howard Johnson hotel from Loja city was designed according to the International Standard ISO 14 001, version 2004. In fact, the initial environmental analysis was based on the next parameters: the current environmental hotel status, noise emissions, the effluents generation, the quality of water intended for human consumption, the solid waste generation, the surveys applied to workers, head departments and guests, the resource use (energy, water, paper, fuels) and the identification of applicable legal requirements. The methodology suggested by IESS and the elements of operation´s risk matrix from Ministry of Labour Relations allowed to identify labor risks. Then the aspects and the significant environmental impacts were assessed in relation of equation´s prominence to quantify the known impacts. Significant environmental aspects that had a further negative impact were: noise generation, use of coolants, partial solid waste separation, effluents generation, partial building signage, use of resources and insufficient work protective measures. Finally, environmental management plan was made, within this plan, environmental policy, aims and targets, environmental management program, procedures and liabilities were expressed. The significant environmental aspects whose criticalness value exceeded 10 were considered. The goal of this Environmental Management System proposal according to ISO 14 001 standard, version 2004, is intended to provide guidelines for subsequent implementation in the hotel in order to improve their environmental performance, enhancing the health and safety of workers in day to day activities.
