The objective of this study was: To analyze the relationship between the cognitive status and the educational level of the elderly in the Vilcabamba day center for the elderly, it was framed in a mixed, descriptive, and cross-sectional approach, with a population of 16 older adults, based on the use of different methods. To collect the proper information, the psychological instrument Mini-mental cognitive test and a semi-structured interview were applied; and to relate the variables, the Spearman's Chi-square test was used. After analyzing the data, it was possible to determine that the cognitive status of older adults corresponds to 56.3% normal, 18.8% mild, and 25% moderate; Regarding the educational level, 87.5% have the level of basic general education at most, and 12.5% have no schooling level. Regarding the correlation of variables, a negative relationship was found between cognitive status and educational level. Regarding the application of the interview, the population that is composed by older adults between 65 and 94 years of age; mostly widowers; with a lifestyle associated with scarce economic resources which has limited them educationally and socially throughout their lives; among the work occupations and daily performances are agriculture and housewives; a quarter of them suffer from diseases such as hypertension, osteoporosis, prostate and thyroid; Likewise, they present auditory, visual, and physical limitations that do not deprive them of their autonomy. In conclusion, knowing that older adults have a mostly healthy cognitive state, being between normal, mild and moderate, which is according to their age and does not affect their daily lives, in addition to reaching a low educational level as a result of the socioeconomic limitations present At that time, the null hypothesis is accepted H0 = Cognitive status is not related to the educational level of the older adult. A partir de los 65 años de edad, a nivel cerebral se produce un deterioro cognitivo propio de la edad biocronológica, que en dependencia del desenvolvimiento psicológico podrá ser catalogado como normal o patológico. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo: Analizar la relación entre el estado cognitivo y el nivel educativo de los adultos mayores del centro diurno del adulto mayor de Vilcabamba, estuvo enmarcada en un enfoque mixto, de tipo descriptivo, y corte transversal, con una población de 16 adultos mayores, basándose en la utilización de diferentes métodos. Para recolectar la debida información se aplicó el instrumento psicológico examen cognoscitivo Mini-mental y una entrevista semiestructurada; y para relacionar las variables, la prueba Chi-cuadrado de Spearman. Analizados los datos se pudo determinar que el estado cognitivo de los adultos mayores corresponde, 56,3% normal, 18,8% leve, y 25% moderado; con respecto al nivel educativo 87,5% han alcanzado como máximo hasta el nivel de educación general básica media, y 12,5% sin escolaridad. En cuento a la correlación de variables, se encontró relación negativa entre el estado cognitivo y nivel educativo. Respecto a la aplicación de la entrevista, la población que está conformada por adultos mayores entre 65 y 94 años de edad; mayoritariamente viudos; con estilo de vida asociado a escasos recursos económicos que los ha limitado educativa y socialmente a lo largo de su vida; entre las ocupaciones laborales y desempeños cotidianos están la agricultura y amas de casa; una cuarta parte padecen de enfermedades como hipertensión, osteoporosis, próstata y tiroides; así mismo, presentan limitaciones auditivas, visuales, y físicas que no los priva de su autonomía. En suma, conociendo que los adultos mayores cuentan con un estado cognitivo mayoritariamente saludable al encontrarse entre normal, leve y moderado, que es acorde a su edad y no afecta en su cotidianidad, además de alcanzar un bajo nivel educativo producto de las limitaciones socioeconómicas presentes en aquella época, se acepta la hipótesis nula H0=El estado cognitivo no tiene relación con el nivel educativo del adulto mayor.
