| Resumo: | ABSTRACT Identify and specify the types of malocclusion in relation to oral habits in children of both genders. a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 50 children aged 6 to 12 years. Data were recorded on a data collection sheet: in two stages; in the first step a survey was applied to parents; in the second stage of the child clinical assessment was performed. Processing and statistical analysis of the data was performed using Microsoft Excel 2013 program. The results were: The anteroposterior malocclusion predominates class I with 72%; is vertically open bite with 10%; and transversely with 2% in unilateral scissors bite; the female sex is predominant in the anteroposterior dental malocclusion, according to age greater presence of dental malocclusion was observed in children 8 -10 years; the most frequent nail biting habit was 46%. The anteroposterior malocclusion Class I and Class II is more common in the onicofagia, and anterior open bite and deep bite is more common in the digital suction. relationship between the anteroposterior malocclusion Class I and Class II with nail biting, with a significance level of 10% (2.38) and anterior open bite and deep bite with digital suction, with a significance level of 10% was found ( 1.04).
