Gaia:Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is a crop of worldwide importance, however, soil acidity limits production. The objective of this research was: To determine the effect of two doses of liming on the control of soil acidity and its influence on the growth, development and production of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) in the Carboncillo area of Saraguro canton. Therefore, the behavior of acidity and nutrient availability was evaluated at 40 and 80 days after the application of liming agents and worked with doses of 4.4 t ha-1 and 8.3 t ha-1 of calcium hydroxide and calcium silicate plus a control with four repetitions under a completely randomized block design; however, when the data obtained met the assumptions, Tukey's multiple comparison tests were performed, and the data that did not meet the assumptions were subjected to general lineal models with LSD Fisher's comparison test. Thus, the greatest increase in pH and the greatest reduction in exchangeable acidity was recorded with the application of 8.3 t ha-1 of calcium hydroxide, which also significantly increased yield. On the other hand, liming did not influence on: MO, N, on days to harvest and number of tubers per plant.
