Shrnutí:Suicide is a global public health problem, which generates an enormous socioeconomic and psychological burden for individuals, families, and communities. Approximately 800,000 deaths caused by suicide are reported annually worldwide. To sociodemographically characterize the cases of death by suicide in Ecuador during the period 2018 - 2022, through a trend analysis; and to perform a percentage classification of cases of death by suicide based on the methods used. Descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. Sample: people who have been victims of suicide during the period 2018 - 2022. The data were obtained from the INEC portal. Statistical programs such as Excel, and SPSS were used for data analysis, and a trend analysis was performed in Tableau. In Ecuador, during the years 2018-2022, 8,077 cases of suicide were reported, the majority of which occurred in males with a ratio of 3:1 compared to females. The most affected age group was 20 to 39 years (42.6%). Most of the victims were married or single and the most affected level of education was people with basic education. The most commonly used method was hanging, followed by poisoning. Suicide is a problem that has a great impact in Ecuador, and it is a problem that largely affects men of working age. Therefore, working on mental health should be a priority for health systems
