Achoimre:The study on the characterization of the integrated management of the “Ganacho” dog in the dry forest of southern Ecuador is based on finding and analyzing the ways in which this canine species is managed, emphasizing its impact on the environment and its relevance for local communities. The method used was a mixed approach, combining qualitative techniques, such as direct observation, with quantitative techniques, such as structured surveys. The findings indicate that 46.75% of the dogs studied were male and the majority (54.5%) were adults. In the sanitary part, it was determined that 31.7% receive empirical medical care, while 68.3% receive veterinary medical care, also 82.9% of the puppies were dewormed and 63.4% vaccinated, mortality at weaning in this population is high 44%. In conclusion, although current management practices are useful, there is a high mortality in puppies and a notable dependence on empirical treatments, which indicates that access to veterinary services should be improved and management practices should be optimized, therefore a key recommendation is that owners receive training in veterinary care and integrated management of this species.
