Resumo:Nowadays, stress is one of the biggest problem in the worldwide due to the affections it can cause in the physical and psychological health of the human being, this becomes more noticeable when talking about staff working in the health area. On the other hand, we find stress coping as a concept linked to the use of resources that are individually put into action to face stressful situations. They are linked to the concept of psychological discomfort which refers to a state in which different symptoms that last over time are denoted, these symptoms are associated with depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, affective and physical conditions. The objective of this investigation was to determine if there is a relationship between coping with stress and psychological distress in a sample of 60 people belonging to the Ecuadorian Red Cross Provincial Board of Loja, applying the SCL-90 Symptom Inventory and the Coping with Stress Questionnaire (CAE), showing that regardless of the coping style used by employees, it helps to mitigate the risk of externalizing symptoms of psychological distress.
