Resumo:Urban growth and anthropic activities are the main precursors of changes in land cover and use that lead to the loss of biodiversity and alteration of ecosystems, however, no study has been carried out of their possible impact on the surrounding natural resources. Based on what has been registered in other cities, the present work investigates the “Analysis of the urban growth of the city of Loja and its influence on the surrounding natural resources in the period 2009 - 2019” and its objective was the evaluation of the urban growth of the city of Loja and its influence on the surrounding soil, water resources and vegetation cover, where Geographic Information Systems were used through the use of ArcGis and QGis for methodological development, where the urban growth of the city of Loja was determined, through a multitemporal analysis in the period 2009 - 2019. As well as the use of a Cause - Effect matrix, it was possible to quantify the influence of the urban growth of the city of Loja on the soil, the water resources and the vegetation cover and finally the generation of a preliminary proposal oriented to the orderly growth of Loja city. The analysis showed that the urban growth of this city in the years 2009 and 2019, obtained an increase of 1,322.24 hectares. The coverage and current use of the soil of the upper basin of the Zamora river for the years 2009 and 2019 increased 928.44 ha, the most affected classes are: pastures with 71.82% and annual crops with 16.04% that changed to areas populated. From the application of the Cause-Effect valuation matrix, the land component is the most affected with 19.86%. On the other hand, the peri-urban area of the city of Loja has an effect of 21.22% of the total area study. The proposal oriented to orderly growth from the city of Loja is an important tool to counteract the changes produced within the work area, for which zoning maps are revealed as a support instrument for their possible application or as a reference to future studies.
